Sample Mesa Airlines Interview Questions

Here are a few of the Mesa Airlines interview questions you’ll find inside Cleared for Cabin:

Scenario 1

You're working the boarding door on a Mesa E175 out of IAH and a passenger tells you it's her first flight and she's terrified. What do you do?

Key answer: Meet her at eye level, name the fear, preview what's about to happen, promise a check-in at cruise, and follow through. Trust built at the door prevents panic later.

Scenario 2

A passenger on your Mesa flight into IAH is upset because he's going to miss his United connection. He's venting to you. How do you handle it?

Key answer: Listen and reflect first, own only what you can deliver, hand off to the gate agents for the rebook, and set up the lead FA for a smooth transition.

Scenario 3

During boarding, two passengers are arguing loudly over overhead bin space and the aisle is backing up. What's your move?

Key answer: Get between them, take them one at a time, normalize the free gate-check, and pull in the lead FA or gate agent before it becomes a report-worthy incident.

Scenario 4

Mid-flight at cruise, a passenger tells you he has crushing chest pain radiating to his left arm. Walk me through your response on a Mesa E175.

Key answer: Assess and report a clean picture to the flight deck, stage the AED and med kit, get MedLink involved, and let the captain make the divert call while you keep the passenger stable and documented.

Scenario 5

You're in the aisle finishing a beverage service when you hit unexpected turbulence and the captain calls for cabin crew to seat immediately. A passenger asks for a refill on the way back. What do you do?

Key answer: Safety first — sit, name the reason warmly, note the seat, and come back with the refill (and maybe an extra snack) once it's smooth.

Scenario 6

You watch your fellow FA snap at a passenger during service — nothing safety-related, but the passenger looks embarrassed. How do you handle it in the moment and after?

Key answer: Recover the passenger publicly, address the coworker privately and with curiosity, and only escalate if it's a pattern or a passenger complaint that will land in a report.

Interview Stages

Application→Personality test→One-way recorded video interview (ODVI)→Zoom 1:1 face-to-face→CJO by phone

Behavioral Questions

  • Tell me about yourself and your work experiences

Tips

  • The F2F is a Zoom call — no travel involved.
  • Do not read a short, light 1:1 as either a pass or a fail — two June 2026 candidates had equally thin interviews and only one received a CJO.
  • The ODVI and personality test appear to carry the screening weight; the 1:1 skews to logistics and eligibility (relocation timing, preferred base, availability).
  • Recruiter-stated turnaround was 'a few days to two weeks' but the CJO call actually came ~3 weeks after the F2F in one May 2026 account.

Interview Experience

“Compiled from dated candidate reports (Reddit/Glassdoor/Indeed). Joint-contract-era candidates (post-Nov 2025 Republic close) describe a consistent funnel: application → personality test → ~10 days → ODVI → ~2 weeks → Zoom 1:1 → ~3 weeks → CJO by phone. The 1:1 itself is very light — one May 2026 account called it 'pretty easy' and contrasted it favorably with a United F2F; a June 2026 account reported the 1:1 was essentially 'tell me about yourself and your work experiences', relocation-to-Arizona timing, preferred base, availability, and small talk. Both accounts described equally thin interviews but only one produced a CJO.”
