Sample United Airlines Interview Questions
Here are a few of the United Airlines interview questions you’ll find inside Cleared for Cabin:
Scenario 1
A passenger in row 14 tells you before pushback that this is her first flight ever and she's shaking. How do you handle her?
Key answer: Get to her eye level, name the specific sounds she'll hear, promise a check-in after climb-out, and actually come back — Core4 'Caring' and 'Dependable' shown, not stated.
Scenario 2
During beverage service you clip a tray and pour tomato juice down the front of a business-class passenger's white shirt. He's furious. Walk me through your recovery.
Key answer: Own it in one sentence, fix the shirt inside 30 seconds, loop in the purser for documented follow-up, and check on him twice more — don't invent voucher amounts.
Scenario 3
Mid-flight, a passenger in 22C hits her call button. She's pale, sweaty, and says she feels like she's going to pass out. What are your first five minutes?
Key answer: Assess (name, conditions, meds, food/water, pregnancy), grab portable O2 without hesitation, have your partner PA for medical pros and brief the flight deck with vitals, and set up a clean handoff to EMS.
Scenario 4
A passenger who was clearly drinking before boarding is now getting loud, has grabbed a flight attendant's arm on the way past, and just told a nearby passenger to 'shut the hell up.' You're the working FA closest to him. Walk me through de-escalation and where your hard lines are.
Key answer: Approach solo and low, name a specific behavior line, cut alcohol, brief purser and captain (the arm grab already meets FAA interference), witness up nearby pax, restraints only with captain's authorization — 'Safe' outranks 'Caring.'
Scenario 5
During the safety demo, a passenger has earbuds in, isn't watching, and won't put his seatbelt on. How do you approach him?
Key answer: Gesture at the earbuds first, cite the reg not the rule, don't leave until the buckle clicks, and use 'the captain can't push until belts are on' to bring the row onto your side.
Scenario 6
Two passengers are arguing loudly in row 8 — one moved the other's bag to a different bin to make room for his own. Both are now standing in the aisle during boarding. How do you defuse it?
Key answer: Get between them and get them seated, take the problem off their plate, gate-check before the door closes if space is truly gone, and thank them both by name so it doesn't reignite at cruise.

Interview Stages
Behavioral Questions
- Tell me about yourself
- Why a flight attendant
- Tell me about a time you explained something new to a customer
- Tell me about a time you worked as part of a team
Company Questions

Tips

- Have three to five customer-service situational stories ready before the call
Interview Experience
“Compiled from dated candidate reports (Reddit/Glassdoor/Indeed). Candidates report a 30-minute live virtual 1:1 opening with tell-me-about-yourself, why United, and why a flight attendant, then moving to three to five STAR customer-service situational questions. Named prompts include explaining something new to a customer and working as part of a team. Multiple candidates note recruiters interrupting or pushing back the moment an answer drifts into a hypothetical rather than a real incident.”
