For flight attendant candidates, SkyWest is the honest answer to a hard question: if Delta, United, and American are flash windows with six-figure applicant pools, where do you actually start? Frame the trade squarely. First-year pay is lower: roughly $30,000–36,000 realistic first-year gross versus Delta's ~$45,000–60,000. In exchange you get rolling hiring instead of flash windows (a standing "Flight Attendant (Multiple Locations)" posting and recurring in-person events, versus waiting a year for a mainline window that closes in days), one of the fastest funnels in the industry (~17 days average application-to-hire per Glassdoor-derived reporting, versus ~270 at Delta), 18–19 domiciles, and real interview experience that compounds — a SkyWest interview and a year of flying make you a materially stronger mainline candidate later.
One myth to kill immediately, because candidates ask constantly: there is NO flight-attendant flow-through to United, Delta, American, or Alaska. The guaranteed-interview and flow programs you may have read about (United Aviate, Delta/Alaska pathways) are pilot programs with no FA equivalent. Your base determines whose livery you fly, but the uniform, employer, seniority, and paycheck are SkyWest's — you never "become" a Delta or United FA by working at SkyWest, and moving to a mainline means applying from scratch like everyone else.
Baseline requirements (consistent across the SkyWest career-guide extract and prep-site summaries, checked August 2026): at least 21, high-school diploma or GED (no degree requirement found), valid U.S. or foreign passport, U.S. work authorization, DOT/FAA drug test and background investigation. The distinctive gate is height: SkyWest publishes a height range of 5'0" to 6'0", physically verified at the interview event (one source quotes "without shoes" — verify shoes-on/off against the live posting). The 6'0" maximum is aircraft-driven, not arbitrary: CRJ cabins run about 6'1"–6'2" of headroom, so tall candidates screened out at SkyWest can still fit mainline specs.
